October 2006
FROM THE PRESIDENT
This year’s Annual General Meeting will be held in my home city of Adelaide on Tuesday, 28 November 2006, at 4.00pm (SA time) and I would be delighted to see, meet and greet a good number of members at the meeting. I know that I will be attending the meeting, as will Vice-President Robyn Glindemann. If you are not able to attend the meeting, please appoint a proxy to ensure that the meeting is quorate. Please fax, mail or email your signed proxy form to NELA Secretariat by Monday, 27 November 2006. Following the National AGM, NELA SA Division will hold its AGM. Drinks and nibbles will then follow. A separate notice will be sent shortly to all SA members giving more details of this meeting and the function to follow.
Proposal to Change the Constitution
A proposal will be put to the Annual General Meeting to amend the Articles of Association to allow members to participate in future AGMs by electronic means, ie teleconference hookup, if they are not able to attend in person.
The Articles presently provide for the Executive Committee to meet by teleconference and this proposal is therefore only an extension of that provision. With a membership spread over all States and international, AGM attendance problems do arise, particularly in non-conference years.ASIC requirements only relate to the date of an AGM, not the place or means. Lodgment of your 2006 AGM proxy is important to enable this issue to be dealt with.
Tim Mellor
President
