Welcome to the WA branch of NELA.

A Committee Profile  is available for the NELA WA 2009/2010 Executive Committee, as is the NELA WA Mission Statement.

The 2009 Annual General Meeing of the NELA (WA) Branch was held on Tuesday 10 November 2009.  Kathryn Barras was re-elected President.  The State Committee is now planning the 2010 State Conference and the seminar series for 2010.

Members' contributions for newsletters are always welcome.

Seminars & Conferences

2010 NELA (WA) State Conference, 3 September 2010

The focus of this years NELA (WA) State Conference is on environmental approvals.  The Conference will be held at the Parmelia Hilton, Perth on 3 September 2010.

Envrionmental approvals, and recent proposals for reform, will be considered from the perspective of key stakeholders, including Government, Industry and Environmental Interest Groups.  The Conference will be opened by the Minister for Environment, the Hon Donna Faragher, and will include presentations on biodiversity, the Great Western Woodlands project and new models of conservation management, condition setting on approvals, and public participation in environmental appeals.  The conference will be followed by dinner at Julio's Restaurant.

NELA WA 2010 Seminars

Human Rights and the Environment Seminar 

NELA (WA) and Minter Ellison held the first Seminar for 2010 on 24 March.

The seminar, Human Rights and the Environment, featured Mr Greg McIntyre SC, former President of NELA, who has been instrumental in the development of Aboriginal land rights and environmental law in Australia.
