Young NELA (Vic)

The Victorian launch of Young NELA was held on 1 May 2009, with an opening address delivered by Ms Helen Gibson, Deputy President of the Victorian Civil & Administrative Tribunal.

 The Convenor on Young NELA (Vic) is Alice Skipper of DLA Phillips Fox, supported by Committee Members Sarah Don (Rigby Cooke Lawyers); Lionel Goh (GHD); Emily Webster (Corrs Chambers Westgarth); Hayley Jones (Clayton Utz); and Arsa Hewitt (Clayton Utz).

Can Whaling in Antarctica be Stopped?

The Federal Court has declared Japanese whaling in Australia’s Antarctic waters is unlawful under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 (Cth) and granted an injunction restraining it.

NELA and Monash University conducted a seminar to explore the legal and policy implications of the decision in the Japanese Whaling case on 7 May 2008.

Guest speaker was Dr Chris McGrath, Barrister in the Japanese Whaling Case.

Best Practice and Ecological Consulting

NELA Victoria and the Environmental Institute of Australia and New Zealand (EIANZ) conducted a seminar examining Best Practice and Ecological Consulting on 17 April 2008.
