NELA (NSW): Some Legal Aspects of Climate Change

SOME LEGAL ASPECTS OF CLIMATE CHANGE

The NSW Bar Association held a seminar presented by The Hon Murray Wilcox QC and Dr Jane McAdam and chaired by Michael Slattery QC on 24 October 2007. The interlocutor was Matthew Baird.

Dr McAdam spoke on the extent to which States have obligations under international law - in particular, international refugee law, human rights law, and environmental law - to "protect" people displaced by climate change. Murray Wilcox QC discussed the possible form of a greenhouse gasses misssions trading scheme, and some of the issues that arose in its design and implementation.
