SUMMARY:Recent changes in the Waste Industry
DESCRIPTION:The Western Australian Waste industry has seen a number of new developments in legal and policy framework\, including amendments to Environmental Protection Act 1986 (WA) and the publication of papers by the Department of Water and Environmental Regulation (DWER) addressing the closed loop economy\, waste derived materials and the waste levy.\n\n\nJoin NELA at the University of Western Australia at 3:30pm on 17 June 2021 to hear from legal and industry professionals who will present on these new developments which the waste industry has or will experience.\n\nSpeakers include:\nCraig Wallace\, Partner at Lavan Legal\nCraig Wallace specialises in all aspects of town planning and environmental law as it pertains to property development and land use. Craig has almost 20 years’ experience in a wide range of matters for developers and government clients including providing advice on all aspects of developments and subdivision approvals\, environmental approvals (both State and Federal)\, advice on strategic framework and policy documents\, advocacy at all levels of the decision making process in a planning and environmental context.\nMarcus Geisler\, Chief Executive Officer of the Eastern Metropolitan Regional Council\nMarcus Geisler became the CEO of the EMRC in July 2019 and is the former chair of the WA Waste Authority. Marcus has a long career working in waste management and has experience in waste processing\, including composting organics and alternative processes\, and the recovery and marketing of secondary materials ranging from construction and demolition waste to kerbside recyclables.\n\nChris Gusenzow (State Manager) of REMONDIS Australia\nChris Gusenzow has more than 14 years’ experience in the Waste Management & Industrial Services industry across Western Australia. Chris has been heavily involved in all aspects of the waste and recycling industry with a strong focus on resource recovery. He is the current WA General Manager of Remondis Australia. \nJustin Pereira – Commercial Logistics Manager – WA\nJustin is a Commercial Logistics Manager who has over 20 years’ experience in supply chain management including 15 years in the Waste and Recycling industry. Justin is responsible for the safe and efficient operation Remondis and has a keen focus on adopting innovative and sustainable solutions. \n\n\n1.5 CPD points available for Western Australian Legal Practitioners.
