The National Environmental Law Association (NELA) is Australia’s leading organisation for environmental law and policy, bringing together a diverse national network of professionals committed to better environmental outcomes. Established in 1982, NELA works to promote understanding of how environmental law shapes the conservation and use of the environment, and to support informed, evidence-based debate on key legal and policy issues.

NELA’s membership spans government, legal practice, academia, industry and the community, reflecting the interdisciplinary nature of environmental challenges. Through events, publications, working groups and law reform contributions, NELA provides a trusted, independent platform for advancing discussion and improving environmental governance across Australia.
