- The functions and responsibilities of independent planning bodies in New South Wales (NSW Independent Planning Commission), Victoria (Planning Panels and Environmental Effects Inquiries) and Tasmania (Tasmania Planning Commission).
- Conduct of public hearings.
- Testing of expert evidence.
- Opportunities for reform.
Presented by Matt Floro – Senior Solicitor at the Environmental Defenders Office
Matt is a Senior Solicitor advising on environmental, planning, climate change and administrative law at EDO. He has practised environmental and planning law in Queensland, Victoria and New South Wales and has worked in the public, private and non-profit sectors, including at the Victorian Department of Premier and Cabinet, Clayton Utz and Corrs Chambers Westgarth. Across his various roles, he has advised Federal and State government departments, private companies, community groups and individuals.
At EDO, Matt has had carriage of several groundbreaking cases, including the Rocky Hill climate change litigation, the Bushfire Survivors climate action, the KEPCO Bylong NSW Court of Appeal action and major water litigation involving the upper Murray-Darling Basin. He has also conducted litigation in the Federal Court and South Australian Supreme Court. He maintains a busy practice in the NSW Independent Planning Commission, including representing clients in relation to the United Wambo Coal Project, Dendrobium Extension Project and Tahmoor South Coal Project.
